Derek Paravicini – - 30-year-old autistic savant Derek Paravicini and Leslie Stahl had good time together on Sunday while in the ‘60 Minutes.’

The blind English musical prodigy has communication problems though yet when his fingers touch the Piano keys; he communicates well. CBS host Leslie Stahl was more than impressed by Derek’s abilities.

Born prematurely, Derek Paravicini also suffered blindness due to the oxygen therapy he received during his stay at a Neonatal ICU that also caused him learning disability since his developing brain was adversely affected too. Even at the age 30 years, Derek has difficulty in both verbal and physical communications but one gets mesmerized when Derek starts playing piano.

American journalist and present CBS reporter and host Lesley Rene Stahl is with the network since 1991 and on Sunday March 14, 2010 she had Derek Paravicini as her show guest. Derek overcame his learning disabilities by learning piano when he was only 2 years of age and Adam Ockelford happened to be his first piano teacher while at the Linden Lodge London when he joined this school for blind.

It has been learned about Derek that apart from his lacking physical or learning skills, he’s got a brilliant memory thus is capable to memorize any tone whatsoever he even heard once. He kept on responding to the requests from Leslie and produced amazing masterpieces during the conversation and relived the memories of his overall professional career.

At presently, Derek is residing in Surrey, England and is considered to be one of the greatest pianists that had his first-ever major appearance at a public concert in 1989 while at the age 9 years. His fans must remember that same year when after performing at barbican Hall, London he featured in ‘Musical Savants,’ a famous documentary. Performing alongside Royal Philharmonic Pops Orchestra boosted his moral and later on, he also played with Jazz Club of Ronnie Scott.

This was his second appearance at the ’60 Minutes’ and his fans and all the piano lovers had a real treat the other night.
