Super Bowl 2010 -- Who else could rock the Super Bowl Halftime? Definitely The Who.
The crowd had gone wild with The Who’s halftime performance Sunday on the Super Bowl. “Pinball Wizard”, “Baba O’Relly”, “Who Are You”, “See Me, Feel Me” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” are the tracks that pumped up the crowd’s adrenaline.
Thirty years ago the question “Who is The Who?” wouldn’t be heard, because at that time the band’s performance mattered most than today, where football drew more energy than the rock legend’s performance. Quoted from Pete Townshend, the band’s guitarist and chief songwriter, he said that “You know, you could kind of tell from the stage the crowd is really here for the game.”
As it had been three decades earlier when this band gained rock music’s center stage, younger generations might have passed this great music icon. For starters, The Who was formed back in 1964 by a group of British Boys. Roger Daltrey (vocals), Pete Townshend (guitar), John Entwistle (bass) and Keith Moon (drums) were the original members of the band. They had already sold about 100 million albums and had a roster of 18 Gold, 12 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum disc awards. “Hope I Die Before I Get Old” and “My Generation” became crowd favorites by millions of their fans especially the youth.
Their top songs however were not included in their Super Bowl performance set list, with the mainly because Daltrey and Townshend are already in their 60’s and that most of their band mates are not with them anymore, with the case of Entwistle and Moon. Their 12 minutes show nonetheless was one of their best performances, being in one of the biggest stages of the world, which they could absolutely be proud of.
